Mr. Cutsforth's 5th and 6th Grade Language Arts

Homework Policy

Fifth and sixth graders will be given an assignment almost every day in Reading class.  This may be written homework, but often times will be an assignment to read chapter(s) from a novel.  As parents, you can help your child by asking about the book they are reading, and making sure they are getting the work done, if it has not been completed at school.  It is very difficult to pass the tests over these books if the student has not done the required reading.

In Spelling and Language Arts, sixth graders are often given class time to complete assignments, but longer assignments may need to be completed at home.  Studying spelling words is something that can be done at home every night.  Students will always have a list to study at school and at home.

As parents, checking your child's planner is a great way to stay up to date on their assignments.  If you ever have questions or comments for me, you can write them in the planner for your child to show me the next day.

My expectation is that homework will be completed by the due date.  If work is not completed on time, the student will stay in my classroom during recess to work on it.  Late homework will be graded in the following way:

1 Day late - 75% of full grade

2 Days late - 50% of full grade

After 2 days - student receives a ZERO for that assignment

Students whose absence has been excused will have an opportunity to make up their work.  They will have an equal number of days that they were absent to complete the work upon their return to school.
